Viochar has successfully identified one reliable supply of raw material for our biochar production—rice husk—from rice mills in Vietnam. Vietnam, a major hub for rice production, boasts a thriving agricultural industry. Large rice mills produce hundreds of tons of rice husk per day. It is currently burned in industrial plants - thus releasing CO2, but is a very useful input to biochar production. The process leaves some silicates, which may be added into concrete or used for example in ceramic tiles.
There are other possible sources of feedstock. Viochar is in discussion with two associations of wood producers. They have wood waste, as an excellent feedstock for our pyrolysis process.
